Notting Hill: An artists Studio
Lovely 3.8 ceiling heights and large original artist studio windows gave us great scope when we devised and started with a blank shell canvas.
We installed a five minutes old , looking three hundred years old, Parquet de Versailles oak wood floor. The walls are French upholstered with extra double width taffeta. Very heavy iron antique ( what I think are architectural ) rain hoppers mount on custom foundered brackets add a different tone for decoration and juxtapose well with the contemporary painting ‘Bergere’. Chairs, sofa and ‘Sauvage’ writing table are my own design.
Complemented with antique side tables ( ex Dorchester hotel) and ( probably ) original Mayfair club ‘gasoliers’
converted into lamps.
A bronze coloured single bedroom/office feature free-standing wardrobes and bookshelves in bronze lacquered finish.
The Harem Guard portrait and orientalist standard lamps with a custom designed writing table and a wall of David Roberts Egypt prints make a cosy dark room.
A guest bedroom devised around a guests chair designed by Lord Snowdon, from the Prince of Wales investiture ceremony in original red paint colour reupholstered with ‘Hermes’ orange leather .
Warming red and orange are continued with the scheme, and oak walls, wardrobes and ziggurat lamp add a gentle weight.
A lower hall detail in the artists studio house features large mirrored wardrobes/storage to four corners, I niche covered with pink heavy gauge raffia paper houses a shell chest from a Paris antique dealer.
A pair of slim 1940’s demi-lune consoles of bronze and marble decorate the side walls, hung with stone textured wallcoverings .
Double en-suite bathrooms crafted with black and silver mirrored walls add a ‘Deco’ ambiance.
Art hung on mirror reflects a portrait hung on a ( deliberately ironic) ‘blousy’ floral lacquered wallcovering.
